Portrait Drawing From Life: A Sculptural Approach
In this intensive three-day portrait drawing workshop, students will use graphite to create striking portraits with a sculptural feel.
On the first day, students will work on a single portrait from life, focusing on structural integrity, gesture, and mark-making as they shift into a sculptural mindset.
Over the remainder of the course, students will slow down and build their portraits over two days. This will provide an opportunity to push their observations further, develop a deeper understanding of what they're seeing and begin to build a convincing sense of light, form and likeness.
Working over a sustained period of time, Sam will demonstrate a series of tools, ways of thinking and techniques that can help an artist realise their subject's presence on paper. Through live demonstrations, one-to-one feedback and lots of drawings, students will come away with two drawings and new understanding that they can use in their future works.
The course is designed for all levels, with one-to-one feedback tailored to each student's vision, interests and goals. Sam's teaching is rigorous but not dogmatic so students can apply their learning in harmony with their own artistic voice.
Schedule
Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.
Lunch break from 1 pm to 2 pm.

General Workshop Conditions
- The workshop will only take place with sufficient bookings.
- Please only pay when you receive an e-mail confirmation that the workshop is taking place.
- The price includes tuition, VAT and model fees. Materials, accommodation and travels are not included.
- You confirm your seat by full payment or a deposit payment.
- Bookings made less than 4 weeks before the workshop date must be paid in full.
- The price must be paid in full no later than 4 weeks prior to the workshop. Otherwise the booking will be forfeited.
- Cancellations made less than 8 weeks prior to the workshop must pay the full price.
- If the workshop is cancelled by our side, you will get 100 % of your payments reimbursed. Including the deposit.
